How to Style: Men's mid-length wavy hair

Mid-length wavy hair has always stayed relevant in the world of men’s grooming, and in particular with the more style-conscious. Most recently, the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Tom Holland, and Harry Styles have become the posterboys for this style, and it’s easy to see why it’s so often recreated. The length is effortlessly cool, versatile, and works on just about every face shape, not to mention, you don’t have to spend an hour in front of the mirror to make it work.

One vibe, two ways

Mid-length wavy hair gives you two distinct paths when it comes to choosing your look. The first is the most casual, with longer sides, and the second is more refined with short sides.

Long Sides

Leaving a longer length on the sides keeps the style at its most laid-back and casual, highlighting layers and your hair’s natural movement. However, this isn’t the right style for you if you’re not a fan of hair ever getting in your face. If you are willing to fight through the longer locks, then the options we’d recommend looking at are purely swept back or creating curtains. Both make great use of the length, so this is something that you’ll have to choose between based on personal preference.

Short Sides

Taking the sides shorter is the other path you can take, which brings the style in a more refined direction. This type of styling makes more of a highlight of your hair’s texture than the layers, but still makes great use of your hair’s natural movement. For this style, you can bring hair back naturally, whilst also adding some volume to avoid the style looking flat.

Styling Products That Actually Work

Regardless of the style you’ve chosen, if you don’t incorporate styling products that work into your routine, you’ll always end up with subpar results.

For longer side looks, a combination of a Sea Salt Spray plus a classic styling cream will give you all the hold you need, whilst producing additional texture, which is the key to levelling up a look. When it comes to specifics, the Dapper Dan Sea Salt Spray and Signature Style Styling Cream is an unbeatable combination. However, if you’ve got naturally drier hair, we’d recommend switching out the Signature Style Styling Cream for the Dapper Dan Primer

For looks with shorter sides, you’ll need a product with a bit more hold to facilitate the additional volume throughout the day. Because of this, the original Dapper Dan Matt Paste is a no-brainer. Especially easy and smooth to work in, the Matt Paste is the perfect blend of performance and ease of use.
